Introduction to Packrafting 101 is a single day course designed to teach novice paddlers how to use & paddle a packraft, river safety basics & how to execute entry-level packraft trips. This course starts from ground zero, even covering & explaining gear basics & use. Perfect for the “never ever” packrafter OR someone who has been in a packraft a few times (or other river watercraft) without any formal instruction or training. Most of these courses are offered later in the day- so you can learn to packraft after work- thanks Alaskan sunshine 😉

Level 1 Dates 2021

Friday May 6th, Co-ed

  • Host: Packrafting Alaska
  • Instructor: Jule Harle
  • Location: Eagle River Campground Section
  • Time: 4-9pm
  • Cost: $160

The Whitewater Intro course is designed for those interested in packrafting more challenging rivers and executing longer wilderness trips.  Time is spent learning to read river features, catch eddies, ferry and boat control while maneuvering through class II-III whitewater. River safety & group management are introduced. This course is NOT appropriate for someone’s first time in a packraft (unless they have experience paddling other small watercrafts on rivers)

Level 2 Dates 2021

May 7th, Co-ed

Level 3 courses are 2-3 days in length. These courses are designed for someone who has packrafted class II or III, but wants to refine their whitewater paddling technique & practice packraft specific river safety/rescue skills. We spend time refining our river reading, eddy catching, ferrying & reading/running rapids, but really stress & practice rescue “o shit, now what do I do?” scenarios. Efficient self rescue, group rescue, rescue swimming & throw rope use are prioritized. Wilderness/remote paddling considerations are also taught. These skills are essential in paddling remote Alaskan rivers.
